Origin Story

Origin of SCRAP-IT!

Our story begins with our founder, Orville Davis and his father, Winston Davis and as polished as they would get, they used to get down and dirty.

Winston Davis had owned one of the largest junkyards in the New York Metro Area located in Queens, NY.  Starting in the 1960's, Winston had learned basically everything he needed to know about the junk business.  What he didn't expect was for his son, Orville, to be born on this very junkyard!  You can say our founder has "junk in his blood".

Orville had grew up on the junkyard and was taught everything about the junk business in order to help run his father's business.  However, due to the tragic death of Winston, Orville was devastated and decided leave the business.  After doing years of soul searching, he decided it was time to return, revitalized with a new perspective, a revolutionizing technology and a powerful team to support his dream.

While attending Farmingdale State College, Orville and his wife, Cynthia Davis had been asked to participate in the school's first Innovation Challenge.  This competition consisted of randomly paired students to be grouped together in order to solve real world problems, in this case it was the waste epidemic.  Orville had presented the idea of creating a junk tracking program through a mobile app to make recycling more convenient and transparent.  The group loved the idea and formed it out into a full blown concept where they presented the idea of Scrap-It! to a panel of judges from PSEG.  The judges loved the idea and granted Orville and his team with 1st place.  This was enough validation to get this idea rolling and becoming a real thing.
